Parveen Babi.... Arth Se Anarth Tak..

Came across n article on parveen babi..thought shud share it with u ppl..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oPQjMHS4gk

Imagine a superstar, who epitomised the bold, the beautiful and the bohemian, reportedly being handcuffed and ankle-cuffed and carried by four policemen from the JFK airport in New York to a mental hospital because she refused to go through the customary checks growing uncontrollably hysterical…
Imagine a top heroine chucking up the sizzle of B-town to seek solace and sanity with a guru-philosopher in the US. And while she did return to ‘functional sanity’ the first time she came back, the second time round she’d reached a point of no return.

Parveen Babi’s nemesis lived within her. In the demons of her mind. The most exquisite face to have hit the Hindi screen in the ’70s, Parveen reportedly suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, which triggered a systematic disintegration of her personality and life. Some claim that her mental disorder was a result of substance-induced psychosis and alcoholism. Some blame a series of failed relationships with Danny Denzongpa, Kabir Bedi and most importantly Mahesh Bhatt. Some link it to a genetic disorder. And some even to an adolescent trauma where reportedly a young, trembling Parveen was hidden under a heap of mattresses in a truck by the nuns of her school during the Ahmedabad riots in the ’60s. The fear of being killed continued to be the subtext of her life… only to eventually kill her.

What could be more heartbreaking than a superstar having to identify herself? Six years after she fled to the USA to seek refuge in philosopher and guru UG Krishnamurthy, Parveen Babi walked down the Mumbai airport tarmac in November 1989 holding a placard that read ‘Parveen Babi’. She knew her longtime secretary Ved Sharma, who was there to receive her, wouldn’t be able to recognise her.
While the restrained Ved Sharma, now in his late 70s, feels protective about his late star client Parveen, his son, the young Lalit Sharma is more forthcoming about sharing impressions and memories of ‘aunty’ as he addressed the actor. Says Lalit, “Papa saw a fat lady with soda bottle and thick glasses at the airport, her hair all messed up, holding a board with her name! Parveen aunty had put on a lot of weight and had changed beyond recognition.” He reflects, “With due respect to her mental state, it’s a curse for a beautiful woman to lose her looks.”

BEFORE
While Ved Sharma began working for Parveen in the early ’70s, Lalit was born in 1975. As a child he remembers visiting her home in Kalumal Estate in Juhu during weekends. “It was a beautiful house built with Makrana marble that Papa had helped her buy. She also had a VCR, a rare thing those days and a couple of imported cars too. She made sure we were served well,” says Lalit who also vividly remembers Parveen’s mother (Jamal Babi). “We all used to call her Mummy. She was the one who taught Papa to eat paan.” He also remembers Parveen’s young nephew Javed Noor Ahmed Sheikh. “Javed bhai must now be in his 50s. He didn’t come on the scene at all after her death. Maybe he lost contact after she stopped recognising her dear ones due to her illness.”
Lalit continues, “Parveen aunty was the prettiest woman I’d ever seen. She had a marble like complexion. She was naturally glamorous. Imagine smoking Dunhill cigarettes in those days. She was the only Indian actress to have featured on the cover of Time magazine.”

He adds, “But she had a homely side too. At home she’d be simply dressed in jeans. She’d attend our birthday parties. She’d give us an envelope (of cash) so that we could buy whatever we wished.”

Though he declines to comment on her various relationships he admits, “Her most intense relationship was with Mahesh Bhatt. He was a struggler then and she a big-time actress.” He adds, “But when your girlfriend expects you to leave your wife, it gets dicey. Also, when a man gets involved with a mentally-depressed woman, his life becomes hell. Parveen aunty was always insecure of losing her men. With due respect to her mental state, she was a confused and scared personality.”

Incidentally, when Parveen first felt something snapping within her, she was introduced to guru and philosopher UG Krishnamurthy by Mahesh Bhatt. In September 1979, she quit the industry to follow her guru. She returned the following year rejuvenated and went on to do superhits like Shaan, Kaalia, Namak Halaal, Khud-daar and Mahaan (between 1980-82). Reportedly, she had broken off with Mahesh Bhatt by then.

In July 1983, at the peak of her career, Parveen abruptly left India to be with UG in the US again. Allegedly, the release of Mahesh Bhatt’s Arth (Bhatt’s semi-autobiographical film based on his turbulent relationship with Parveen) and her disturbed state of mind led her to ditch it all for good. And when she returned from the US again in 1989, she was a different Parveen altogether...

AFTER…
Lalit who was in his teens then says, “From the time she returned to her demise, our relationship fluctuated, sometimes off, sometimes on. But while she was away, Papa had secured all her assets. He handed over the keys of her flat, the records of her fixed deposits, everything. Anyone else in her place would have been on the streets.” He continues, “Initially, she remained withdrawn. Papa thought that if he tried to guide her, she’d misconstrue it.”
Due to her paranoia, she lodged police complaints against 34 parties, including co-star Amitabh Bachchan and former US President Bill Clinton. She accused them of conspiring to kill her (the allegations were dismissed due to lack of evidence). She even filed an affidavit in the court after the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case, claiming that she had evidence against
Sanjay Dutt.
In the meanwhile, Parveen also began getting her official work done through Lalit. He reveals, “She distrusted us less than the others. I’d deposit her cheques, withdraw cash and even do legal jobs for her. But she wouldn’t let me xerox the documents. She feared they’d get stolen.
So she’d make handwritten copies of the voluminous documents writing out word to word, line to line. You could not differentiate the original from the duplicate.” Parveen also made Lalit file police complaints. “If I refused to do so, we’d become villains. If the police didn’t accept her complaint she’d say, ‘I told you so, the police are hand in glove’.”
While the Sharmas were allowed inside her residence, Parveen wouldn’t open the door for anyone else. “For groceries and essentials, she’d slip the money through the door and collect the milk and eggs once the man had left.” Lalit traces the origin of this neurotic fear, “Once she had stepped out to buy something when a bus passed close to her near the Hare Rama Hare Krishna temple in Juhu. She believed that someone had sent the bus to kill her.”
Later Parveen even stopped eating cooked food, fearing it would be poisoned, says Lalit. “All she drank was the yellow of the egg; she’d whip it and make a juice. That’s why so many boils had sprouted on her face.”

Her mistrust was so intense that she refused to be treated for her mental illness. “She didn’t trust the doctors. Anyone who suggested she should see a psychiatrist became her enemy, even her mother!” says Lalit adding, “She even believed that the January 26, 2001 earthquake in Kutch was planned because she had a water tank on the terrace and ‘they’ wanted to kill her by crushing it. If her car didn’t work, she’d believe that someone had deliberately tampered with it.”
What Lalit found strange was that she never mentioned her past relationships or her glory. He remembers her 50th birthday for which she had invited them. “Her make-up was garish. She had ordered food and it was laid out at 6 pm. It had turned cold. She made the electrician serve us as she never employed any domestic staff. When I went to the kitchen to keep my plate, I was appalled at the filth and stink. For someone who was once a cleanliness freak, this was shocking. Her beautiful terrace flat was a mess. It had heaps and heaps of newspapers which were categorised in sections like politics, health, entertainment etc.”

Lalit says it was impossible to have a normal conversation with her. “She had developed this weird habit of putting on a tape recorder when you visited her. She’d switch on the gadget and say into the mike, ‘This is Lalit, Sharmaji’s son with me, the day is…’ and then begin talking. On her birthday she did the same thing.”

Two months before she passed away, Lalit had visited her. “She sounded okay. There was a wheelchair at home (she had gangrene on her foot) but she didn’t look weak.” The Sharmas came to know of her demise on January 22, 2005 (she had passed away on January 20) when they watched the news on television. Reportedly, the police was alerted, as she had not collected milk and newspapers from her doorstep for the past three days. She had developed a complication due to her diabetic condition.

“We went to the hospital where her relatives had turned up. They told Papa to tell the police that they were related to her. Papa said, ‘I know you all but I won’t say that you’re related to her as none of you looked after her’. In fact, in keeping with her bizarre behaviour, Parveen had assigned shares to her dead relatives in her will,” says Lalit.
Finally, Parveen Wali Mohammed Khan Babi was buried next to her mother at Santa Cruz, Mumbai on January 23, 2005. But to all those who once knew her, she had died long ago.

her last interview with shekhar suman pretty much validates everything..heres d link-

My Review-

Vicky Donor.... Ayushmaan Bhav !!!

Band baja baraat k baad dilli aur dilli k befikar munde to jaise bollywood mein success ka
formula ban gaye..kai filmon mein us tarah k kirdaar aur dialogues k zariye audience ko baandhe rakhne ki koshish ki gayi..chahe wo 'mausam' mein shahid ka character ho 'rockstar' mein ranbir ka..ya latest bittoo boss...directors ko laga dilli aur punjabiyon ka tadka lagane se pheeki kahaani mein bhi swaad aa jayega..
..lekin aisa hua nahi...kyunki jaisa maine kaha tha kahani kamzor hogi to picture ka chalna mushkil hota hai....( housefull 2 zaroor ek exception hai..main seriously jaanna chahti hun ki log ye picture dekhna chale kaise gaye) khair,,,in sabhi filmon ne itna dissappoint kiya ki vicky donor k promos se laga ek aur delhi centric movie aa gayi..lekin iske release hone k baad word of mouth k zariye is film ne apna jaadu chalana shuru kar diya..tamam social networking sites aur tv pe apna verdict sunane wale film critics ne film ko 3 aur 4 stars se nawaza, ek do ne toh 5 stars tak de daale..yahi nahi kayi logon k status pe bhi likha aane laga ki vicky donor zaroor dekhein..waise sach kahun to har movie ek baar dekhne layak to hoti hi hai ..isliye ye film dekhne ka mann to main pehle hi bana chuki thi..to achche reviews k baad ye jaanne ki ichcha aur badh gayi ki film main aisa hai kya...
aur finally film dekhne k baad ye keh sakti hun ki-
freshness, amazing moments aur entertainment k dheron sperms ne ek bahut hi gud luking, well spoken aur intelligent film ko janm diya hai...aur haan ye band bajaa baraat se bilkul alag hai...sperm donation jaise ek sensitive subject ko bahut hi light hearted tareeke se darshaya gaya hai...waise film ki jaan iske dialogues hain jinki khaas baat ye hai ki ye dialogues kam aur ek dilli waale ki aam bolchaal jaise zyada lagte hain.."fuddu".."chep" "vella" jaise fultoo dillichap shabdon ke istemaal ne kai seetiyan aur taali bhi batori..
agar acting ki baat karein to Ayushmaan ne amazing acting ki hai..vicky ko itna naturaly screen pe jiya hai ki koi keh nahi sakta bande ki pehli film hai..Yaami gautam behad fresh aur pleseant lagi hain..acting bhi achchi hai lekin ek particular scene jahaan wo vicky ka raaz jaanne ke baad gussey mein react karti hai, wahaan zara maat kha gayin..aisa laga jaise dir ne doosra take le liya hota to behtar tha..
annu kapoor (doctor), dolly (maa) aur daadi ne to kamaal hi kar ditta ..teeno poori pichchar vich chhaye rahe..daadi aur maa k drinking scenes to lajawab hain..nashe mein talli hoke duniyadaari discuss karne ki acting mein to inhone bade bade bewadon ko peeche chhod diya..dekha jaaye toh teeno hi apne kirdaaron k mutabik hain ekdum pure punjabi.. :))
infact yaami k bengali dad aur bua ne bhi zordaar acting ki hai..dono parivaaron ke beech bong aur punjabiyon ki fish aur chikkan tikkey ki jung dekhne layak hai..sophisticated vs show offs..lol
all in all ek achchi script (except for the forced climax)..lajawaab acting aur paani de rang ne is picture ko one of the best ki category mein laake khada kar diya hai,,tusi vi ek vaari jaake taalkies vich picchar dekho..je achci na lage te menu dasya..:)

jaate jaate fyi- maa ka character karne waali dolly auntie ka asli naam hai dolly ahluwalia..ye
actress hone k saath saath ek costume designer hain aur bandit queen k liye costume designer ka national award jeet chuki hain..saath hi omkaara ke liye filmfare award haasil kar chuki hai..o ji kya kehne inke toh..:0)

The Miser & the camera : Rajeev Masand

Open magazine col, cortesy Rajeev Masand. Quite an easy one ;-)
He may share his second name with his more ‘commercial minded’ movie-star cousins, but he’s had considerable success himself taking the road less travelled. This popular leading man of mostly quirky, often art-house fare is a favourite among a band of younger filmmakers driven to tell unconventional stories within the ‘mainstream’ format.
However, insiders insist that even if his taste in films is unconventional, he’s no different from typical penny-pinching actors who seldom reach into their own pockets to pay bills. While working on a new thriller with a respected young filmmaker he’d previously made a memorable movie with, the actor accompanied the unit production manager on an equipment-hunting session one afternoon. While they were out and about, the actor set his sights on an expensive DSLR camera, but he wasn’t carrying enough money to pay for it. He reportedly asked the production manager to shell out roughly Rs 50,000—the cost of the camera—offering to return the cash the following day. Hardly in a position to say ‘no’ to the star, the manager paid up. Expectedly, the money wasn’t returned the following day, or the day after, or anytime that week. The manager has said he repeatedly sent word to the actor’s secretary asking to be reimbursed for the camera, as he needed to settle accounts with his boss. No response from the star or his secretary.
When a few months had passed without any visible inclination on the actor’s part to pay for the camera, the desperate manager and the film’s producer realised they had no choice but to get the studio involved. Since this wasn’t one of those super-expensive vanity projects where stars are unduly pampered—rather, a tightly-budgeted project—the studio co-financing the movie decided they couldn’t just write off such a significant amount. So, while settling the actor’s fee, they deducted the cost of the camera. Embarrassed that his indiscretion had become public knowledge, the actor didn’t contest the cut. He simply never brought it up with anyone—not the studio, not the film’s producer, and not the poor production manager, who was just relieved that he wasn’t going to lose his job if the money wasn’t recovered.

He calls this a party trick - Rajeev Masand

Open Magazine column by Masand .
He makes tasteless films that rake in big bucks. And word on the street is that he’s just as tasteless as his movies. It’s well known in Bollywood circles that this actor/TV host/filmmaker has embarrassed many a female acquaintance by talking constantly about his… umm… ‘endowment’, and has even flaunted it to those reluctant to buy his tall claims.
A friend of the gentle(?)man reveals that he has now taken a picture of it on his cell phone, and happily pulls it out at private gatherings just to watch his friends squirm.

Rajeev Masand : Monogamy Delusion

the open magazine, courtesy Rajeev Masand.
One of Bollywood’s hottest female stars, who’s been single the past year after breaking up with her long-term boyfriend, recently found out that the latter had been secretly seeing his current girlfriend while they were still a couple. Her actor ex, who cultivated the image of a committed partner while they were together, was always rumoured to have been playing the field discreetly. But she only recently found out he’d been double-dating the last few months they were together. She’s believed to have told friends that she failed to recognise him fully even though they’d been together so many years. While she has publicly wished him all the best with his current girlfriend (a “corporate type”), she’s said to be disgusted that he could take her for a ride without her even suspecting it.

iTIHAAS k panno se...

Ek shakhs jinki zindagi k baare mein padhna aur jaanna mujhe humesha achcha lagta hai wo hain kishore kumar..unki personality k itne pehlu hain ki unhe samajhke liye "lena hoga janam hume kai kai baar.."..

Tales about Kishore’s endearing eccentricities abounded during his lifetime. Like outside his house was written, ‘This is a lunatic asylum’. Like once he put make-up on half his face for a producer who had only paid him half his fee. Amit doesn’t deny these but explains, “He had seen artistes struggle. It had taken him 25 years to become Kishore Kumar. Here, no one pays you on time. So, he did the right thing.” He adds, “To the world he was a mystery. But he had a naqab on. He was not mad. Woh uska mazaa lete the (he used to enjoy his act). He’d say, ‘Duniya mujhe kehti pagal, main kehta duniya ko pagal’. The media wrote nasty things, but he never cared.”
Amit goes on to share some Kishoresque anecdotes. “In 1972, he started growing his hair and sporting sadhu-like orange robes with a mala around his neck. He even went for recordings like that. He began calling himself Swami Kishore Anand. Later, he blindfolded himself. ‘Mujhe kisiko nahin dekhna. Looking at each other invokes jealousy’, was his logic. For days, he went around like this. Then one day he took off to Badrinath wearing those robes. After the darshan, he sat on a peak. Some women asked who the sadhu was. His associate Robin Kumar said he was Swami Kishore Anand. They went up to touch his feet. But one of them recognised him and screamed, ‘Yeh to Kishore Kumar hai’,” laughs Amit. “I never saw my father ever going to a barber. He trimmed his own hair by placing three mirrors around him.” Amit rubbishes the allegation that his dad was a miser. “If someone from the staff came to him he’d pull out a bunch of notes and hand them over. He did a lot of charity and also free shows for jawans and cancer patients but he never spoke about it.”

Related News i dont wanna call it gossip but after going thru the pics of mona kapoor's funeral i woz wondering where the hell is Sridevi..she's d second wife i get it..but tht doesnt make u inhuman..

lekin jaise ki kehte hain ki har sikke ke do pehlu hote hain usi tarah is story ka bhi doosra pehlu ho sakta hai..courtesy Shobha De- the INfamous agony aunt-- read the article below-
=>
Shobha De in her recent blog talks about sparing a thought for Sridevi in the present situation. For people unaware, Boney Kapoor married Sridevi without going through a divorce.
The blog follows.

I didn't know Mona Kapoor. Even though, as a young girl, she lived in the same South Mumbai complex as I do,and in which her mother, the formidable Sattee Shourie owned a flat. I was away in Muscat when Mona died, and got to hear of it through mutual friends who had attended her funeral. Later, I scanned media coverage of the multiple functions that followed Mona's passing away, and found one person missing from the images. Sridevi. The other mourners in impeccable designer whites may or may not have been Mona's close friends. Nearly every celeb covered by the media was present for someone else, not for Mona. They were there as acquaintances of the Kapoor clan. Some were Anil Kapoor's old associates, others , part of Boney's ( Mona's husband) or Sanjay's circle. Then there was the younger lot, cousins and buddies of Mona and Boney's two children. There were no pictures of Jahnavi and Khushi, Sridevi and Boney's daughters. And my heart went out to Sridevi. What a position to be in, after spending so many years of her life living with Boney ( since June '96), and giving birth to two daughters.Yet, when tragedy struck, there was no place or position for 'the other woman' in that very public space in which Boney was featured as a grieving widower.
Clearly, Mona was a much adored and popular person, judging from the outpouring of love for her even from virtual friends who knew her from just from her Twitter handle and frequent tweets, including the rather grim final one in which she bravely confronted her condition and imminent death. Mona must have been an extraordinarily courageous, dignified and strong woman. May her soul find peace. In terms of timing, it's sad that she didn't live to see her son's movie debut. And that his first media exposure happened under tragic circumstances at his beloved mother's funeral. What now? Sridevi will be seen in her major comeback film fairly soon, an ambitious and risky project that her countless devoted fans are looking forward to. Boney has also landed himself a cushy job with Sahara. And yet,Bollywood watchers are still in a bit of a quandary wondering how to respond to Sridevi once the rituals and mourning period for Mona are over. Should they offer condolences? Make no reference to the unfortunate death in the family? Pretend nothing has happened?
What will Boney do? Make it legal and officially marry Sridevi, the lady he has shared his life with for 16 years?? Will Sridev's long cherished dream of being recognized by all, family included, as "Mrs. Boney Kapoor" , finally come true? Sure, it's complicated. But these are just a few realities of modern life, not restricted to Bollywood. There are several similar situations in urban society. It is just that for Boney and Sridevi, being Bollywood personalities, the spotlight and speculation are hard to avoid. There are no road maps in delicate scenarios like this one. What should Sri have done? Stayed away or turned up? What was going through her mind and heart as she and her young daughters followed the coverage ( assuming they watched it?). How will she deal with the public scrutiny and intrusive questions when she does step out with Boney next? Tough. Mona has left for a better place. But Sridevi is very much around. A little sensitivity directed her way, wouldn't hurt.
